Sea Shepherd Vessel

|

Project Overview

Marine Window Services (MWS) had the privilege of assisting Sea Shepherd, a global leader in marine conservation, with a critical window refit on one of their commercial vessels. Operating in the Brisbane River, the vessel required precise removal and resealing of two forward-facing glass windows at the base of the superstructure. Our team was tasked with ensuring a watertight, long-lasting solution that would support the vessel’s ongoing environmental missions.

The Mission of Sea Shepherd

Sea Shepherd is an international, non-profit marine conservation organization dedicated to defending ocean wildlife and ecosystems from illegal exploitation and environmental destruction. Through direct-action campaigns, they work to combat illegal fishing, protect endangered marine species, and prevent pollution from harming the world’s oceans.

Operating a fleet of conservation vessels, Sea Shepherd actively patrols global waters, confronting poachers, documenting illegal activities, and collaborating with governments to enforce maritime laws. Their unwavering commitment to protecting marine life aligns with our own values at MWS—ensuring that vessels remain operational and resilient to continue their vital work on the water.

As a company that specialises in marine glass solutions for commercial and private vessels, we are deeply committed to sustainability. By supporting organisations like Sea Shepherd, we contribute to the longevity of vessels that play a crucial role in marine conservation.

Project Execution

The scope of work involved:

  • Seal Removal & Window Preparation: Carefully remove the existing seals from two large, forward-facing glass windows to facilitate steelwork modifications.
  • Sourcing Marine-Grade Seals: Identifying and sourcing the appropriate marine-grade rubber seals, ensuring long-term durability against harsh ocean conditions.
  • Seal Refit & Leak Prevention: Expertly installing new seals to reinforce the window structure and eliminate previous leakage issues.

Our two-person team worked efficiently, completing the entire project in just one day while the vessel remained in the water at a commercial dock in Brisbane.

Challenges & Solutions

  • On-Water Refit: Performing maintenance on a floating vessel requires careful coordination to maintain precision and safety.
  • Leak Prevention: Addressing an existing seal failure meant sourcing a high-quality marine-grade rubber solution to withstand extreme marine environments.
  • Working Around Vessel Operations: Ensuring minimal disruption to the ship’s crew and mission readiness while executing the work seamlessly.

Through meticulous planning, expert craftsmanship, and our deep understanding of marine window systems, we delivered a durable, reliable refit that will support Sea Shepherd’s ongoing conservation efforts.

A Partnership Rooted in Purpose

MWS is honoured to have played a role in maintaining a vessel that stands at the forefront of marine conservation. As a company that prioritizes quality, sustainability, and marine expertise, we deeply respect the work Sea Shepherd does to protect our oceans. Supporting their fleet with high-quality marine window solutions aligns with our values, ensuring their vessels remain in peak condition to carry out their vital missions.

We look forward to further opportunities to assist organizations dedicated to protecting our planet’s waterways.
