Sirromet Yacht

|

Project Overview

Marine Window Services (MWS) were engaged for the comprehensive window reglazing of Sirromet, a 20-year-old Princess V65 yacht known for its remarkable speed and efficiency. Designed by Olesinski, the yacht’s deep-V hull allows for increased lift and reduced drag, making it capable of reaching a top speed of 36 knots. The initial project involved the removal and reglazing of three bridge windows and four deck skylights, but as the work date approached, the scope expanded to include resealing all the yacht’s windows, whose original Sika bonding, at 23 years old, was failing. This required close coordination with other trades working on a new hardtop roof for the yacht.

Design and Scope Expansion

As the project progressed, the yacht’s captain and manager, Jonathan Bodley, consulted with MWS, seeking advice from MWS Director Darren Dench on the best course of action. After assessing the state of the windows, it was determined that simply replacing the rubber seals on the side windows would not suffice. MWS recommended pulling out and resealing all 11 windows, to ensure long-term durability and performance. The client approved the revised plan, and we proposed to add two more technicians to expedite the removal process within two days, leaving sufficient time for the other trades to proceed with their work seamlessly.

Manufacture and Installation

With the schedule agreed upon, MWS allocated a highly skilled team of five technicians to complete the reglazing and resealing process. The work involved not only removing and reglazing the 11 windows but also ensuring that the new seals would withstand the elements and stresses that commercial and recreational vessels like Sirromet regularly encounter. The installation was carefully planned to align with the other ongoing works on the vessel, allowing for an uninterrupted workflow. Despite the expanded scope, MWS completed the reglazing and installation within the anticipated timeline, ensuring that the project remained on track.

Impact and Outcome

The successful reglazing of Sirromet’s windows has significantly enhanced both the functionality and appearance of the vessel. With expertly applied new seals and high-quality glazing, the yacht is now better equipped to endure the rigours of high-speed travel and harsh marine environments. The client expressed their satisfaction with the precision, professionalism, and flexibility MWS demonstrated throughout the project.
